These earrings are part of αία's "Tales" series, featuring designs that draw from local traditions and beliefs. The "mati" is one of the most recognizable symbols in the Greek islands and beyond, with charms and cleansing rituals passed from generation to generation and still used widely today. Aside from its superstitious character, mati beads, textiles and decoratives - due to island tradition and their striking white / blue colour palettes - evoke the vivid, sun-soaked feel of summer in Greece.
These earrings feature 100% high grade rayon and cotton threads across the embroidery, and handmade tassels, as well as natural lapis lazuli beads.
The dimensions of the earrings are approximately L10 x W6 cm. Despite their elaborate design and beads, they are lightweight and can be worn for hours without discomfort.
Each earring requires hours of meticulous craftsmanship—from embroidering the eye motif to hand-making and hand-beading all 34 tassels that create its striking final form. The result isn’t just an accessory; it’s a piece of art you can wear.

Tips
Care instructions:
- To ensure long-term quality, avoid getting these earrings wet or allowing too much friction. When travelling with them, it is advisable to pack them separately from other jewelry.
- If the tassels get bent out of place, you can straighten them easily with a steamer or – if you don’t have a steamer – by putting them over your steaming hot coffee / tea.
