Hi there! My name is Anastasia and I am the owner of αία embroidered art.

The idea for αία was conceived by chance, when I had the good fortune to take a trip through Central America, where I was astounded by the ornate woven textiles, telling the story of indigenous peoples of the region, through beautiful colours and shapes. Having a passion for embroidery, I decided I wanted to do something that showcases my own "place" and its stories. Thus αία was born.

Αία is a word that appears in Homeric texts, signifying "land" or "place", which is what my work seeks to celebrate; Greek beauty, culture and geometry.

Αία features unique jewelry and wearable statement pieces, all lovingly made, at my home business in Athens, by me and "Frank", my home embroidery machine. Each piece I make celebrates some part of Greek culture, art, tradition and beauty and is usually inspired by a trip or happy memory.

In my other life, I have been working for 12 years in the field of sustainability and climate change as a business advisor so the environmental and social impact of my work is super important to me. My threads are 100% rayon (which is wood based) and cotton, and stitched typically on cotton fabric. The jewelry backing fabric is currently recycled PU but I am experimenting with cotton and other natural alternatives that can give the same high quality look. Findings, connectors and beads are all from natural materials and my packaging is plastic free. 5% of proceeds from every item you buy goes to charity.
