As a budding drum artisan and toddler mom, I had no time to spare in 2002. But materials I collected over the years, some pieces of art in themselves, beckoned to be worn.
Enter Lila de Chaves. Her eye-opening workshop at the Benaki Museum endowed me with a plethora of skills for "building" with metal. This was my first communion with a flourishing and supportive coven of handcrafted-jewellery devotees.
Then came the Meet Market, a place to test my work, to meet my people, to continually raise the bar. Three ongoing series - Beginner's Luck (vintage poker chips set in precious metals), View Carré (cinematic film bracelets) and Meander (pleated leather cuff bracelets) - propelled Skinny Legs' monthly participation for a solid decade,
Since then, I've collaborated with museum shops, art galleries, music festivals and boutiques in Greece and abroad, creating limited or one-of-a-kind pieces with precious metals, leather, cinematic film and found objects.
When I'm not crafting drums, I play with the tools and materials in my tiny workshop. Often it's a custom jewellery order that offers the impetus. Sometimes it's the materials themselves that tempt me, seldom a technical drawing and never thoughts for the season's collection.
Like my drums, my jewellery is spare, eclectic and enduring. I use both traditional and cutting-edge techniques, as required.
